Northglenn Youth Commission

Description: BECOME A PART OF YOUR COMMUNITY! Give a Voice to Northglenn's Youth by joining the City of Northglenn in creating a bond between the City and Youth that will both educate and unite us.

REQUIREMENTS FOR BOARD OF DIRECTORS:

*You must be between the ages of 13-18
*You must be a Northglenn Resident
*You must be willing to commit to a one year term
*Meetings are held on the 1st & 3rd Tuesday of each month year round, at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Center, with the exception of some holiday months. Please contact the City Clerk's office for specific dates (303-450-8755).

Special Note: The Youth Commission shall not make recommendations or advise on matters pertaining to internal City policies, or programs relating to staffing or other personnel matters.

The Youth Commission shall act in an advisory capacity only. It's powers and duties are: To encourage youth participation in community issues, using the Youth Commission as a forum to express ideas and opinions.

Current issues:
*Discussing the possibiity of a skate park in Northglenn
*Participating in discussions regarding Northwest Open Space
*Addressing Alcohol and Drug problems for prom & homecoming
*Volunteer work
*Suitcase Drive for foster children
*Making a difference for youth today!

The Board of Directors shall consist of five to fifteen youth appointed by City Council. Each director shall serve a term of one year and must be a Northglenn resident. The Board shall select officers from its membership and have set rules of agreement (available upon request) governing the conduct of the Youth Commission.

The number of non-board of directors members to the Youth Commission is unlimited. All youth in the community are welcome to serve as members. It is important to the Youth Commission that it involve a diverse group of youth from the community to get a respresentative perspective on issues regarding youth today. You do not have to be a "leader" or a "follower" to become a part of this team - you can be one, the other, or anywhere in between. Your opinions and ideas are greatly needed to help meet your own needs within the community.
