Children's Gaucher Research Fund

Mission Statement: Children’s Gaucher Research Fund (CGRF) is a local non-profit organization founded by Greg and Deborah Macres. Greg and Deborah, along with their four children, live in Granite Bay. In 1997, their 4 year-old-son, Gregory, passed away from a rare genetic disorder called Gaucher disease. CGRF’s grass-roots effort is focused on raising funds to coordinate and support research aimed at finding a cure for Gaucher disease (Type 2 and Type 3) as well as providing support to families who have children who battle this disease. In doing so, research that is taking place, including the research that has been funded by CGRF, is impacting, and potentially will help in finding a cure, for some 26 neuronopathic Lysosomal Diseases that affect the brains in young children. Combined, the prevalence of these diseases is 1:6000 births. In addition, researchers at the National Institute of Health have recently found a potential connection between neuronopathic Gaucher and Parkinson disease. CGRF, in partnership with the National Institute of Health, sponsors a bi-annual scientific conference. This unprecedented forum allows over 100 related medical experts from 10 different countries an opportunity to share information and explore new ideas leading to a cure of neuronopathic storage disease.
